When spring rolls around in Japan, holidays seem to pop up in quick succession from March through May. For example, March 3 is Girl's Day or Hina Matsuri where families wish daughters a healthy and happy life by displaying Hina dolls in the house. The dolls are supposed to absorb any negative energy and are then left on a roadside or abandoned, thus transferring the bad luck to an inert object.
